Patio Covers in White Oak

A patio cover near Longview may sit under a different city's page, and White Oak says to ask first in its own words: the City of White Oak's Building Official page says, "Please check with City Hall before work begins to see if a permit is required." It does not say whether a patio cover needs one.

Patio Covers around White Oak

The page (read October 7, 2026) says the City of White Oak conducts inspections based on its adopted codes, and lists them as the 2018 International Fire Code, Residential Code, Building Code, Fuel Gas Code, Mechanical Code, Property Maintenance Code and Plumbing Code, the 2015 International Energy Code and the 2017 National Electric Code. Longview's own page lists later editions, the 2021 International Building Code and the 2026 National Electric Code, so an edition cited for one city is not the other's. The page does not mention patio covers.

None of these city pages mentions patio covers, so what follows is our inference, not a rule: because the two cities list different editions, anyone planning a patio cover near the line between them has a reason to ask the office of the city the lot is in which page applies. We say nothing about any lot.

Permits and the City of White Oak rules

The City of White Oak's Building Official page says, "Please check with City Hall before work begins to see if a permit is required." It does not say whether a patio cover needs a permit, and neither do we.
